Five Things That You Should Add to Your Bucket List

Do you need a few ideas to put on your bucket list? If you do, we have tons of them, but for today we are going to limit our suggestions to just five fun and easy things to do and see on Topsail Island. What's in your bucket list? Here are a few of our favorites. 

1. Go fishing

Do you enjoy fishing but never had the chance to go fishing while on the beach? If so, did you know there are several ways to enjoy fishing on Topsail island. From surf fishing on the beach to fly fishing in the calmer waters, there is no end to what you can catch and how you can catch the big one. Don’t forget to purchase a North Carolina fishing license. Once you’ve done that, our local fishing community is always ready to help make a fellow anglers fishing dreams come true. 

2. Discover the art of crabbing

Many people love and enjoy fresh crab. However, not many people have had the chance to actually go crabbing. During certain times of the year you can go crabbing right on Topsail Island. Crabbing is easy, fun, and cheap. It takes almost no equipment to go crabbing (ask any local) or stop in one of our local bait and tackle shops. You find lots of great information and friendly folks within the local crabbing community. This is one Topsail Island tradition everyone must try. 

3. Watch the sunset or sunrise

There is something beautiful and relaxing about watching a sunrise or sunset on the beach. Luckily, during your vacation you can do both. Take a day and enjoy one of the most incredibly moving experiences on the beach as the world is bathed in its first light. Later take the time to sit on the beach with your loved one, or maybe just alone and watch the sunset. We promise you’ll be in love with the beach forever. 

4. Try a new dish 

Let’s face it, when you are at the beach it is all about the seafood. However, many people have never really tried fresh seafood. Of course, you don't have to only try seafood, step out of the box and try anything new and different. This year, cross off that bucket list and have the shrimp and grits, Pad Thai, or a Calzone you always wanted to order.  No matter what you want to try, we either have a restaurant in the area serving it, or you can take advantage of your well-appointed kitchen in your vacation home. Either way, now is the time to try something new. 

5. Meet the local sea turtles

Majestic and ancient, sea turtles are a unique part of our local ecology. Out of the seven species of sea turtles roaming the world’s oceans, five of those species find their way to the shores of Topsail Island on a regular basis.
