Sometimes just sitting on the beach soaking up the rays is not enough. Nope, sometimes a family vacation needs a little injection of adventure. While we love our laid-back atmosphere, we also have all sorts of adventures.
Sea Kayaking
Paddling the day away on the placid waters off of Topsail Island is just the right way to get the family moving and exploring. From guided tours to rentals for the experienced, Topsail Island is a kayaking paradise. Parasailing
Looking to see Topsail Island from, oh say, about 300 feet above the land? Well if this is your kind of adventure, check out the folks at Shoreline Watersports. Located in the heart of Topsail Island in downtown Surf City, you'll love getting a bird's eye view of the island as you're towed along the waterfront at 300 feet. Rates are reasonable and six people at a time can go out on the boat. That means the whole family can get in on the action. Want to have more fun, hit the air with a buddy or two. Jet Skiing
If you feel the "need for speed" then a jet ski excursion is right up your alley. Often our first vacations with the kids is a beach vacation. Topsail Island is the perfect "first" vacation for the little ones in the family. After all, add a little sand, some sun, a few small waves, and no matter what age your kids are you have a recipe for happiness and great memories. However, for the toddlers in the family, we have three fun games that the kids are sure to love. Plus they are all free!
Tic-Tac-Toe In The Sand
Everyone loves a game of Tic-Tac-Toe, and the best part about playing at the beach is Mother Nature provides everything you need. Just draw the squares in the sand, grab a piece of driftwood or shells, and whammo you're ready to play.
Beach Scavenger Hunt
Gather up the kids and get ready for a beach scavenger hunt. Make a list of items on index cards ahead of time. Simply give the kids a card and set them loose. Remember to keep an eye on the little ones around the water.
Beach Bowling
Beach bowling is simple and fun to play. All you need is a ball (almost any size will work) and a small bucket to make sand pins. I like to use a water bottle with the top cut off to make pins ( 2-Liter bottles are best). Make the pins, stand back...and roll!
Rain? No Problem. Boogie The Night Away
Ok it happens, occasionally it even rains here on Topsail Island. Of course, you don't need to have the excuse of a rainy day or night to head over to the Topsail Beach Skating Rink. It has been an island tradition for generations, and now your family can make memories at this wonderful local treasure.
The fees are reasonable and the music is fun and family-friendly so don't worry about bringing the smaller ones out. Plus, what could be better for a teenager than uploading an embarrassing photo of mom and dad skating the night away to the BeeGees.
